Rome Ciampino Airport ( Aeroporto di Roma-Ciampino or Giovan Battista Pastine Airport) is a joint civilian, commercial and military airport near Rome in Italy. The airport is situated 12.0 km (7.5 mi) southeast of central Rome, just outside the Greater Ring Road (Italian: Grande Raccordo Anulare or GRA) the circular motorway around the city.
A single terminal facility, Rome Ciampino Airport (CIA) is relatively small in comparison to Rome's Leonardo da Vinci International Airport, also known as Fiumicino. However, despite its size it is still a busy facility, handling flights operated by a large number of airlines to an expanding number of international cities, as well as destinations in Italy.
Ciampino Airport was opened in 1916 and is one of the oldest airports still in operation. It was Rome's main airport until 1960, with traffic amounting to over 2 million passengers per year. Since the opening of Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino Airport, Ciampino has been handling almost exclusively charter and executive flights.
After decades of stagnation in scheduled traffic, low-cost carriers have boosted Ciampino; it is now one of the busiest and fastest growing airports in Italy. Serving some five million-plus passengers on a yearly basis, Rome's Ciampino is actually amongst Italy's busiest and most important airport, and has recently been expanded to cope with increased traffic created by its budget airlines.
A single car park situated adjacent to the terminal building is available to drivers arriving at Rome Ciampino Airport. The car park offers a total of 1,900 spaces for short-term, long-term and disabled parking.
Short-term parking is available in the airport's single car parking facility, the first 15 minutes is free and thereafter a hourly charge applies, or half hourly for the first 30 minutes and payable upon exiting.
Long-term parking is available alongside short-term parking in the airport's single car park. Rates vary according to the length of time and security is provided. Booking online is possible.
Eight spaces are allocated to disabled drivers in the airport's single car parking facility. These are conveniently located near to the car park's exit/entrance, making access to the terminal convenient for disabled passengers. Further assistance can be arranged by calling the airport or your respective airline in advance of your arrival at the airport.
Rome Ciampino Airport has a wide variety of convenient transfer options to central Rome and beyond.

Driving around Rome in the early morning and late afternoon is not advisable. Italian drivers are notorious for their intimidating driving and the congestion and traffic jams in the centre of Rome is best avoided. However, cars are the perfect option for exploring the surrounding area of Lazio.
A number of parking garages are available around Rome city centre, all of which are expensive and can become busy. These include the Terminal Gianicolo off the Piazza della Rovere, a car park at St. Peter's train station (Stazione San Pietro), the Auditorium Car Park in Parioli, and the Parcheggio Ludovisi, close to the famous Spanish Steps.
